Located in the Calanques de Peire Gouerbe in the town of Le Lavandou in the Var, Hotel Les Roches is a mythical establishment on the French Riviera. Its history is written in the 1930s and takes a new turn in the 1950s and 1980s through upgrading and expansion works. Originally, the grounds were occupied by five separate buildings with different sizes and aspects depending on the period to which they belong. The objective of the project is to transform this neglected site into a 5-star hotel representative of the French art de vivre, while respecting the exceptional topography of the site. This project offers 45 rooms including 39 classic rooms, 3 junior suites and 3 suites, as well as a restaurant, a bar and a freshwater swimming pool.

The particularity of the site is the steep slope of the land: to the south, the plot opens onto the sea and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding creeks and Cap Nègre.

The project is characterized by a fragmentation of volumes. The base, treated like a cave, accommodates 14 rooms including 1 suite, 1 PRM room and a spa, on the ground floor. Each room has its own private outdoor space overlooking the sea and the surrounding area. To the west on the ground floor, the building containing 6 rooms forms the link between the basement and the other buildings. It is located slightly below and allows to marry the natural ground. The last three volumes on the ground floor and two upper floors meet simple volumetric criteria: thick gable walls with stone cladding to the north and at the ends enclose running slabs on each level. These are extended at the level of the outside spaces to create overhangs that taper at the end, revealing slight rounded holes that filter the light during hot seasons. This architectural element is a particularity found throughout the entire project.

The hotel takes up a classic identity in the use of noble materials but reinterpreted in a more contemporary aesthetic. Thus, the materials used are stone from Bormes, white fibre concrete, exotic wood and lacquered steel. The choice of natural and local tones allows a good integration in its environment, while having a contemporary treatment by its volumetrics.

Large green spaces have been preserved and developed on the whole plot: flat roof, green roof and open space, allowing the planting of various species.
